Meet Cristy
Art is my passion. After getting a bachelor’s degree in Art Education from Michigan State University, I moved to Manhattan to study fashion illustration at Parsons’ School of Design. I loved drawing, painting, and studying art in the city, but supporting myself proved to be challenging. This experience motivated me to put my art on hold for a more practical occupation. I studied Mechanical Engineering at the University of Michigan. Coincidentally, I met a wonderful man named Art during my third year and later married him. After working as an engineer and raising three fabulous young women, I am retired and focusing on painting again.
People often remark on my unconventional path through life, deeply immersed in two areas sometimes considered opposites: the world of art and the world of science and engineering. To me, they are intrinsically connected. Both require creativity, discipline, confidence, and a willingness to explore. Math problems, computer code, and molecular models contain patterns much like those found in the proportions of a face, the waves on an ocean, or light spilling over a forest at sunset. Everything is related. I will continue to enjoy my many fields of interest: artwork, science, bird watching, dogs, tennis, and most of all, my family. Please enjoy this art and think of it as a blend of all the above!
